History

BUILDING BRIDGES, INC. (BBI) is a community-based 501 (c) 3 organization of caring professionals who are dedicated to preventing HIV infection and to improve the lives of those affected and infected by HIV and AIDS.

Founded in 1995, BBI responded to a need in the growing HIV/AIDS endemic in and around the Jackson Metropolitan Area. In the beginning the primary focus was on persons living with HIV/AIDS and to provide comfort by bridging the gap between care and services. Some of the early programs of the agency included referrals for services, assistance with shopping and other household chores as well as HIV/AIDS community sessions.

As one of the first AIDS Service Organizations in the State of Mississippi, we continue to sponsor education programs to stop the spread of HIV/AIDS and provide comprehensive support and services for people living with HIV/AIDS. Since our founding, Building Bridges, Inc. has grown to become a leader in the fight against the AIDS epidemic in Mississippi.

Today, the agency offers a continuum of services, including prevention education (street and community outreach, venue-based outreach, condom distribution and group level interventions), HIV antibody testing and counseling, prevention case management, support groups, food boxes, peer support services and assistance with housing opportunities for persons with AIDS (HOPWA) applications.
Building Bridges, Inc. serves all individuals, regardless of gender, sexual orientation or identification, race, ethnicity, religion, education, or socioeconomic status.
